On their 25th anniversary, Sunflower Creative Arts launched the Sunflower Play Initiative (SPI), a community outreach program that strives to give all children access to child-initiated, creative play while raising awareness of the many profound benefits of unstructured free play in childhood to communities and educators. Sunflower Play Initiative serves the communities of South Palm Beach County by offering opportunities for children to engage in child-initiated free play while acting as a support system for educators and youth leaders who aim to improve children’s playtime.

In May 2020, SPI launched Build and Play at Home, an initiative to bring play materials to children of economically-challenged families in Delray Beach and Lake Worth during this pandemic. Two hundred Sunflower Play Packs were made and distributed for the children at our partnered sites and in the community. Play packs are plastic shoeabroad programs, internships, and research collaborations. We are proud to be part of a global network of educators and learners who share our commitment to quality education.
